Overview

Warped Drive is a strategy game with a survival element. In the "real world," the player must conserve a limited oxygen supply while moving about the empty starship Adnascencia. In cyberspace, the player must remove a virus from their starship's computer network to restore full functionality to the starship.

The documentation below is a comprehensive listing of the gameplay mechanics.

Meatspace

When referring to the "real world," Infosec Engineers use the term "Meatspace." An Infosec Engineer spends very little time in meatspace: just enough time as required to maintain physical requirements. There is one very important downside to being in meatspace: oxygen consumption is 10x faster here than in cyberspace. Infosec Engineers without a hefty oxygen supply will have to scramble to find more.

Getting Around

Thanks to the Adnascentia's acceleration towards a distant solar system, a pleasant 1g allows crewmembers to walk from compartment to compartment. Unfortunately, due to the infected state of the network, most bulkhead doors have been shut and will require overrides to open again.

Players use WASD to move the Infosec Engineer around.

Oxygen

During the events of Warped Drive, players will need to venture through the corridors and compartments of the starship Adnascencia in order to harvest oxygen and access terminals. This overriding need for oxygen is the primary goal of the early game, and still needs to be maintained during the late game.

The Infosec Engineer begins the game with a few minutes of oxygen in their life support suit. This suit includes an Oxygen Watch that displays a countdown to oxygen depletion.

The Oxygen Watch

Oxygen is gathered from the environment by either draining Oxygen Bottles or Oxygen Generators. Walking up to an Oxygen Bottle will automatically pipe it into the Infosec Engineer's suit.

Getting Oxygen from Corridor B

Oxygen Bottles are non-renewable source of oxygen. They can be found in many areas of the Adnascencia.

An Oxygen bottle

Oxygen Generators create small amounts of oxygen. Over time, they can create large amounts of oxygen. They are much rarer than Oxygen Bottles, and must be turned on by the Infosec Engineer. Players use E to inspect Oxygen Generators.

An Oxygen generator

Oxygen Generators have a display that shows how much oxygen they have currently stored, their power state, and the ability to change that state. Players use the mouse to toggle the on/off state of Oxygen Generators.

Terminals

Terminals display a number of information readouts about oxygen consumption and other important data points. Players use E to inspect Terminals.

Cyberspace

Infosec Engineers spend most of their conscious time in Cyberspace, the virtual presentation of the starship Adnascencia's computer network. Players use Spacebar to jack into Cyberspace.

Getting Around

Cyberspace is presented as a graph network: nodes represent clusters of computing resources, and edges represent connections between subnetworks.

The Metanet Subnet, the Infosec Engineer's virtual home

When first jacking in, Infosec Engineers begin in the Infosec Workstation computing resource in the Metanet subnetwork. This workstation is an Engineer's hub. From the Infosec Workstation, Infosec Engineers can design new Antivirus scripts and remote into the many different nodes in the ship-wide computer network. Players use Z to zoom out to view the network at the subnetwork level, use Q to enter the Antivirus workbench, and use the mouse to select nodes to remote in to.
